How cultural experiences can improve health and wellbeing

Regina Herholz – Social Wellbeing and Social Inclusion

In this essay, MA Arts Management student at the University of Manchester Regina Herholz compares the Museum of Modern Art’s Dementia programme to the reminiscence approach adopted in British hospitals.

With the ultimate aim of establishing what the museum setting offers patients above the clinical setting of hospitals, Herholz argues that the de-medicalization of patients in cultural environments contributes to combatting social exclusion.
