Julia Davis-Nosko

Julia Davis-Nosko uses ceramic forms, textiles and words to create powerful synergies questioning how we form narratives.

Writing to John Newling: “ I’ve just come back from Routsi in Greece working with the village in permaculture.  I’m developing small biodegradable magic domes which have seeds inside. We wrote words of wishes into the domes.  The clay is in situ in this beautiful mountain village…and these were made just there with nothing other than kitchen equipment.”

Recent exhibitions and residencies include; series of workshops with Whitworth Art Gallery Handmade groups, residency with performance artist  Delaine le Bas, ceramic installation at the RCA for NOA 15, ‘Rucha Rucha’ at Ignite, Bank Street Arts, Sheffield and Lodz Tapes for InDialogue at Nottingham Contemporary.  Publications and awards include; exchange to the Belarus State Theatre in Vitebsk and performance in Edinburgh with the Demarco European Art Foundation.  Collaborative programmes include partnerships with the British Library and  working closely with community groups such as Incredible Edible; bringing people together through food growing and sharing.

A discussion of Julia’s practice by Italian filmmaker Simona Manni can be viewed here.
